[ They've had a bit of a chance to settle in and to let everything they learned later on Saturday sink in... so, Wei Wuxian has taken it upon himself to check in on Psyche. He has a feeling that she might have been particularly affected by all of this, given how out of sorts she was even before the announcement.
With a bag of goodies, Wei Wuxian makes his way around the resort, looking for Psyche. He covers all bases before eventually just asking for her at the different cabanas because god forbid he use the phone.
[ It's probably not a surprise that Psyche doesn't seem less stressed after what they'd found out on Saturday. But she brightens a little at the sight of Wei Wuxian anyway, pausing on her way out of Kakapo to greet him. ]
Good morning, Sir Wei. Were you looking for me?
[ He looks like he's about something, anyway. She studies his expression with just a little worry. He seems so cheerful, but that doesn't mean he isn't bothered by all this, too. ]
[ After a certain point, Wei Wuxian has settled himself down at the bar, nursing a glass of orange juice. He's had a drink or two, but at this point, he no longer feels like it's a good idea to be drunk or even tipsy on this island.
So, it's time for juice only for the rest of the night.
He's mid-sip when he spots Psyche walking near the bar, and he waves out to her. Come have a chat! ]
[ If it were anyone else, she might have pretended not to see. Her steps falter for a second; but she changes her course from walking along the beach to join him instead. ]
Drinking alone? ...Are you doing alright?
[ It feels a little foolish to even ask that, considering everything, but still... ]
[ Psyche takes a bit after the trial to clean up and pull herself together; for just a little while, she needs to not be around people. But she can't really stay around Kakapo either, when the empty side of the room drives home what just happened.
It's only a matter of time before she goes looking for Wei Wuxian. Maybe she's bothering him, but they've said they can talk to each other, right? She'll start her hunt at the bar and then try the cabana before she just begins doing a circuit. ]
[ She's right to look at the bar, because Wei Wuxian is right there, pouring a cup of juice. He looks up when he senses someone walking his way. ]
Ah, Psyche. How are you feeling?
[ Wei Wuxian may have been investigating, but he heard just how much of a rush she was in to get to her cabana, and given that Chai passed... well... he assumes she's not doing well at all. ]
[ He's right, and she's definitely been better. She tries to give him a little smile for a second, but it falters and she drops it. He told her she didn't have to force it, so... ]
[ Well, all of that definitely happened! And because so much happened, Wei Wuxian finds himself knocking on the door to the Kakapo cabana, holding onto a little bag. ]
[ Psyche had retreated to Kakapo because the gathering of the party didn't particularly suit her mood, but that's one voice she'll always answer. The smile she gives when she opens the door is small but not unfelt. ]
Wei Wuxian.
[ She glances down at the bag, and then behind her into the cabana in consideration. Waltaquin is still probably there, so... ]
[ Look. Regardless of what all ended up happening between them at the book cafe, they need to at least talk about it. As bad at signals and as avoidant as he can be sometimes, Wei Wuxian knows he can't do that to Psyche.
She's too kind.
So, he sends her a text: ]
meet me at the planetarium first floor
[ She'll find Wei Wuxian sitting on one of the couches there, relaxing on a couch as he picks at a muffin. ]
[ Psyche reads the message a few times before she manages to propel herself out the door. It's Wei Wuxian, and it's always been easy to talk to him. Talking will be good.
By the time she arrives her lips are still looking a little red from the way she habitually worries them with her nails when she's fretting, but she gives him a smile. ]
I was wondering if this was the right place. I haven't been to one of these before, either.
Your steps are heavy on the stairs as you slowly make your way up the stairs, your hands behind your back. A sinister smile on your face, you slowly turn to face your target once you reach the top of the stairs. Cowering in a corner is Wen Chao, the one that's responsible for ruining every semblance of peace you had come to grow accustomed to. He calls for his bodyguard, but there's nothing he can do to keep himself safe, and all three of you in the room are well aware of this. ]
Even now, you think calling him will be of any use?
[ You take a step forward, your foot hitting something small and white—it's a meat bun. Holding back a laugh, you raise an eyebrow at Wen Chao. ]
What, are you getting picky now?
[ Of course he is. After all, you forced him to eat the flesh off of his own bones. Wen Chao screams, pulling himself along the floor and away from you with his hands, tugging at the bandages on his legs and revealing the sorry, bloody and bony state that they're in. ]
I'm not eating it! I'm not eating it!
[ He screams again, loud and shrill, and you don't move, a sickly satisfied feeling washing over you as you see him in this state. The lantern near you flickers, and you toss something invisible next to the lantern. The light flickers again, and the spirit of a small boy shifts into view as he munches on two detached fingers. Wen Chao screams again, bringing up a fingerless hand to his face—you kept those fingers for this very moment.
As expected, his bodyguard steps between the ghost and Wen Chao. You hold back a biting laugh. ]
Wen Zhuliu, do you really think you can protect his shitty life from me?
I will die trying.
What a loyal dog.
I owe a debt of gratitude for their recognition.
[ You sneer. ]
What a joke! And why must others pay the price for your debt?
[ Before Wen Zhuliu can answer, Wen Chao screams again as he presses himself into the corner of the room.
[ Is it possible to feel ill in someone else's memory? At least, surely, it's impossible to actually be sick. She's seen violence before she ever came to this place. She's seen cruelty, too. This is something she's never seen before. The sharp contrast in the emotions layered over hers — that satisfaction against her revulsion — leaves her a little dizzy.
She won't look away. She won't close her eyes. Of course she'll continue. ]
[ Suddenly, a ghostly woman falls from the ceiling on top of Wen Chao, and you only smirk because you knew this would happen. After all, you commanded her to lie in wait like that. She rips the bandages off of Wen Chao's head and it tears off the already burnt and marred skin all over his face, leaving him a bloody pulp. Shrieking, Wen Chao flails around as the ghost boy you fed fingers to lunges at him and latches onto his arm, refusing to let go.
A sick, twisted satisfaction washes over you as you watch the skirmish. And yet... you feel empty anyway. Nothing can make up for the hell that was the last three months for you.
Before you can do anything else, Wen Chao passes out and two figures suddenly crash through an opening in the roof. You grab Chenqing and lift it up to your lips in case you need to defend yourself, but when you realize it's Jiang Cheng and Lan Wangji, you instead recall the ghosts back to your side so they don't hurt the new arrivals. At the same time, Jiang Cheng uses his whip, wrapping it around Wen Zhuliu's throat before launching him into the air, effectively snapping his neck.
The three of you stare at one another in silence before Jiang Cheng throws something at you and you catch it reflexively. ]
Your sword!
...Thanks.
[ You have no use for it, not when there's something extremely important missing from you. What can you do with a spiritual sword now?
But you don't have much time to ruminate over it when Jiang Cheng walks over and smacks your shoulders. ]
You bastard! Where have you been for the past three months?!
[ His delighted tone, along with the smack, leave you feeling dazed. The fact that you can feel Lan Wangji's gaze boring into you doesn't help either. But you snap out of it and smack Jiang Cheng back. ]
Haha, it's a long story! A long story!
[ Jiang Cheng continues to ask you for more details and you dismiss him again. It's not his concern what happened to you. It's no one's concern.
But he presses, so you answer. ]
I got caught by the Wens and they threw me into a hellhole to suffer.
[ The ghost woman crawls towards you and rests her head on your thigh, and you gently stroke her hair. An uncomfortable atmosphere settles over the room. Despite it, Jiang Cheng continues on their little conversation as you promise to tell him more details when you're alone—Lan Wangji isn't welcome to hear them.
Jiang Cheng starts to scold you about your sword when Lan Wangji finally speaks up. ]
Wei Ying.
[ You finally fully acknowledge him. ]
Were you the one who has been killing Wen sect disciples?
Of course. [ Jiang Cheng jumps in: ] I knew it. Why did you kill them one at a time, though? That's so much work.
[ You grin. ]
It's fun, toying with them until they die. Exterminating them right away is letting them off too easily. Kill them one at a time, one slow slice after another. Force them all to watch it happen. Needless to say, I haven't tortured Wen Chao enough yet. As for Wen Zhuliu... he owed Wen Ruohan a debt of kindness for his recognition. So much so that he changed his surname to join the Wen Clan and carried out Wen Ruhoan's orders to protect his precious little son. [ ... ] Since he wants to protect him, I want to make him watch all the more. Give him a front row seat to watch Wen Chao deteriorate beyond recognition in his hands, little by little, until he becomes neither human nor ghost.
[ You're grinning now, the idea of it vastly improving your mood. It's concerning enough that Lan Wangji steps foward.
[ Where did Psyche disappear to in the aftermath of being poisoned, slightly injured, and left without her powers? The logical answer would be holing up somewhere safe for a little while, right?
Well, she's not in the mood to be logical. She's had a Day. Wei Wuxian will get a message. ]
What kind of food did you and Zelkov make for Fou? I know he can handle himself, but I wanted to leave him something.
[ Wherever Psyche has been keeping herself since the meeting, Wei Wuxian will get a text. From the bar, assuming Some People have left any stools there intact for ordinary visitors to make use of. ]
Do you think it would be a bad idea to have one drink? I think the sealed containers should be alright.
