You mentioned that about the food before... were you living off of what you hunted before here?

Occasionally. We started growing vegetables, but it was always a gamble on whether or not they would even sprout, given the soil at the Burial Mounds is foul.

[ She can… probably guess why.

Wei Wuxian adds nothing to his coffee, taking a sip and letting out a soft hum. It’s so nice and warm, which is much needed right now. ]

For the most part, we ate what we could.

[ He really takes his coffee like that... well, that's easy to remember.

Psyche gives a little nod and doesn't press on the obvious there. ]

There must be a way to make the soil better... I'll ask Medea when I can. She knows about things like that.

[ A few months of hurried study can't make up for a lifetime of Psyche being shut away. She sips her coffee again and leans closer, enough to nearly feel the warmth of his side. ]

It's so easy to get food here. I wish we could bring some of this back to your world.

[ He shifts so she can properly lean against him if she likes, doing so without even giving it a whole lot of thought. ]

I’d like that. It’s too bad she couldn’t come down and cast a spell on the soil or something herself. That would be perfect.

[ He laughs softly. ]

We’ll be fine without bringing anything back, however. I like to think that things will continue to improve for us. We’re no longer strictly in survival mode, so it can only get better.

[ Unfortunately, as he concluded before, he's irresistible. She leans a little bit more to just rest against him. ]

You mean, normally? I'm still learning about it myself, but... I can heal someone as long as there's still life in them, I think. Broken bones, or poison, or cuts... I was stabbed in the heart once, and I could still heal that in the instant. ...Sometimes, though, it won't work. I still don't know why. I'm trying to get better control over it still.

[ That's the healing part, anyway. Maybe it is something like the opposite of his? She sees it a little as his powers picking up where hers end. ]

[ He has a sip of his coffee before reaching for his slice of cake and having a bite. It’s good, even if he isn’t all too keen on sweet food. ]

The more you practice, the better control you’ll find you have. Some are naturally inclined for magic use, but even then it takes a lot of time and practice to hone it. What you can do already is impressive in and of itself.

[ Even after getting used to Medea knowing about it, it's a little strange to be praised for her powers. But coming from him... it's a nice feeling. Psyche smiles and gives a little nod. Trying not to move too much away from where she's snuggled, she puts down her cup to reach for her cake too. ]

I hope so. I used to wish that it would just go away, but... now, I'm glad I have it. Maybe god will take back the blessing someday. But until then, I want to do something worthwhile with it. I'll have to see if it could work on plants.

There’s plenty you can do with a power like that, and I hope that your world doesn’t discourage you from doing so. Keep your head high and you’ll find plenty of purpose.

[ That hits a nostalgic note... She puts a hand over her mouth to stifle what would be an undignified giggle with a mouth of cake. ]

Medea said something like that, too. "Become someone." I can't use my power openly at home. But I hope I can find that certainty that you have.

[ It's just a silly, momentary dream. But thinking about being able to do something with them in his world is nice. She gives his suggestion a nod. ]

[ He knows there’s a level of impossibility to it—he doesn’t want to put Psyche through any trouble in his world, and he isn’t sure if the power to bring her there even really exists. But… it’s a nice thought, and it warms his heart more than the coffee ever will. ]

[ Wei Wuxian chances a glance at her, and his question sounds open-ended. She can ask whatever she likes. ]

[ She glances up to meet his look, gauging his expression quickly to see if she's touching on anything sensitive. ]

Yours are a little like mine, aren't they? You had to teach yourself?

[ Since his techniques are different from the ones most people in his world use, and what he said about the Burial Mound... ]

I did. I invented this method of cultivation all on my own and am the only expert in it. Probably because it’s considered heresy even in my world.

[ He has a bite of cake, seemingly pretty unbothered by her question. ]

But it was necessary. I had no other means of protecting myself or fighting in the war. My previous method of fighting became useless to me.

[ She nods, leaning a tiny bit more weight against him for a moment in wordless assurance. The heresy doesn't bother her in the least. ]

I think that's amazing. Instead of giving up, you just... started over like that. Is it because you're a genius?

[ Maybe there's a tiny note of teasing, but she means it too. ]

[ He laughs. ]

Of course it is!

[ But he has a much more serious answer to that. ]

My will to live was strong enough that I found a way to survive, and a way to live.

[ Especially here, that's such a reassuring answer. She hums in agreement and closes her eyes. ]

And because of that, we got to meet like this. As long as you feel like that, I won't worry here.

[ He would give his life for someone else, but he’ll do whatever he can otherwise. ]
